I heard a bird sing

(A Yule bluebird. December 2007. © Robin)

I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.

‘We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,’
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.

~ Oliver Herford

    Pretty ornament.
    Happy Advent to you!

    Thanks, Sloggy. :)

Is his tail fiber obtic? Very pretty!

I need to get my tree up! Jamie is bringing up the decorations tonight.

I’m not sure, Truddle. I wasn’t paying much attention when I snapped this picture. It was on one of the trees at Longwood Gardens.

My tree isn’t up either. I’m hoping to take care of that this weekend.

    Hey Robin,

How ya doin? Nice poem, that. We’re all thinkin’ about you and your mom here, and mindful of tomorrow being Friday. Hope all is well with you.

    Thanks, Am. :)

I’m doing ok. I increased my yoga workout and meditation time this morning, just to try to keep some semblance of calm. All I can do is wait, and it won’t help anyone if I’m worrying at the same time.

That’s a good idea. Waiting is so often the hardest part.

(i think that’s why civilization has developed so many different kinds of tea)

I like the photo. I’ve only ever put cardinals and doves on my tree but I know some people like bluebirds.

My tree? I hope it goes up soon. Hopefully tomorrow. But it’s not looking good. I have gotten so many packages this week and done so much shopping that it’s hard to walk in my bedroom. I have boxes piled all over and then blankets draped over them so the girls don’t see them when they come in. They are great at guessing which box is theirs and what is in it, just by the box.

Calm is good. I hope you can keep the calm for as long as you possibly need to.

My Mom sometimes had bluebirds on her tree, too. I’ve saved a few of them. This one is beautiful. Does anyone know the history of bluebirds or cardinals and ornaments?

QuoinMonkey: I usually put some birds on my tree (a robin being one of them for obvious reasons).

As to the history, I don’t know. I did find this:

But it’s about ornaments in general.
