Scenic views

(View from Mt. Soledad.* April 2008. © Robin)

You must learn to be still in the midst of activity and to be vibrantly alive in repose.

~ Indira Gandhi

*I’m going to have to depend on the TorreyPinesGoddess to tell us what we’re looking at in some of these photos. I didn’t take notes and it’s been over a month since I stood on Mt. Soledad and took photos. My memory ain’t what it used to be (which might not be saying much as I’m not sure my memory was ever all that great).

    OK, here goes:

#1 – the view due south over Pacific Beach with Mission Bay in the distance. You can see a hint of downtown in the upper left corner.
#2 – now you’ve turned a little more south east looking down on I-5 with a view of the slope of the eastern La Jolla and Pacific beach neighborhoods.
#3 – That looks like a closer view of #2.
#4 – now facing north east. The yellow flowers on the distant slope are mustard. The houses are part of the University City area. The high rises on the left are part of the downtown north which is really just a bunch of office buildings and a hotel/condo tower or tow in University City (UTC). On the far left side you can see the white spiral towers or the Mormon temple that is perched right along the freeway.
#5 – Ah, looking up my way – North over La Jolla with the Scripps Pier in view and up on the right a hint of the Torrey Pines bluffs.

Thank you, TPG. Sorry to make you give me the tour more than once (but have to say you’re an excellent tour guide). :)

That top picture has really arresting composition.

I also rather enjoyed the contrast in the 4th one down. Up close, the flowers so alive, and vibrant, then panning out the pollution over the city obscures things like mist.

L.A.’s is a lot worse, and even Portland’s is pretty bad sometimes. It’s become a part of the vista.
