snowflakes mingling
with raindrops
a fall transition
We had our first hint of winter yesterday. It was mitten weather, cold and damp after a week with the remnants of Sandy swirling wind, gray clouds, and rain showers over the area. The lake effect machine (Lake Erie in the north) was turned on, bringing rain at first. Big, fat snowflakes joined in, reminding us that winter weather will soon take over.

That first mix always takes my breath away and I dance and twirl like the wind playing with the flakes.
Oh, me too, Elisa. 😀
I hope those brave little birds don’t get too cold!
I often wonder how they manage to stay warm and survive our winters, Joanne. Somehow they do it. 🙂
one of the things I do enjoy about winter, and it’s a short list, is the return of the goldlfinch to the feeders. In summer and fall they are at the other end of the filed, feasting on berries and seeds everywhere. Yesterday, they appeared at the feeders by the kitchen window so I know winter is fast approaching.
I like seeing them at the feeders too, Joss, although I did get lucky this year with the thistle growing in the meadows.
yes, do love that don’t they? and you got some great shots of them as well.
Thanks, Joss. 🙂
Hello, winter. Goodybe, winter. Hello, Robin…
